Rock Climbing and Mountaineering

• Rock climbing: there are various venues for rock climbing. Good beginners' crags are just a couple of kilometres away in Les Gaillards. The Chamonix Valley is a magnet for rock climbers and there are hundreds of alpine routes to suit all abilities. On wet days or evenings indoor climbing can be found at Mont Blanc Escalade (walking distance from the apartment). This climbing wall is one of the biggest in France and accommodates beginners and children of all ages. Tuition and equipment hire is available.
• Mountaineering: The Chamonix Valley has some of the best mountaineering in Europe. Les Houches is the main departure point for the ascent of Mont Blanc. For those wishing to undertake any expeditions there are various organisations offering guiding in the region and courses.
