Les Houches is a picturesque area with impressive views to the nearby Mont Blanc . It is the largest pisted ski area in the Chamonix valley. The slopes are wooded which makes it excellent if it is snowing. Generally, the pistes are blue and red runs making it excellent cruising for intermediate skiers and boarders. La Verte /Khandahar (World Cup Men's Downhill run) is a good challenge for the more experienced skier. Gentle beginner's areas are found at the top of both the Bellevue and Prarion lifts. Other nursery slopes are located in the centre of the village beside the Ice Rink. Snow canons ensure good coverage on the lower slopes throughout the ski season.
Mountain restaurants are good, particularly the small, charming La Taniere at the bottom of the Plan du Cret piste which has excellent food and service.
The main lift is located approximately 75 metres away from the apartment at the Bellevue Lift Station. The telepherique goes to the top of the Bellevue and has links to the second main cable car (Prarion at 1965 metres). The chair lift from behind the car park goes to Maison Neuve which also connects to the main ski area.
